Communication from March 27th, 2025: Reflection on Annual RSA Trip

Communication from March 27th, 2025

Greetings Marvellians,

I write upon return from Boston and our annual trip to the RSA. We had four fantastic panels stretched across three days, with a fifth bonus session on Milton and Marvell that served as a wonderful tribute to Nick von Maltzahn. Nick has been such an important and generous presence in Marvell studies, a groundbreaking scholar always happy to share the wealth of his knowledge, and it was moving to see so many gather to celebrate his work. All of our panels were very well attended, as was the convivial, if chilly, happy hour that followed on Friday evening. It was wonderful to see those who came; we were sorry to miss those who could not be in Boston or who never made it over from SAA or other commitments at RSA.

We now look forward to our virtual annual meeting, which we will hold on Friday, April 11th at 12pm, EDT. I will write as we get closer to the meeting date to provide a Microsoft Teams link.

At the meeting, we will be looking to elect two new members for the Executive Committee, with Tessie Prakas and Hyunyoung Cho cycling off (thanks to Tessie and Hyunyoung!). Please let me know if you are interested. AMS is a wonderful group of people, and service is light, but important, as you will be able to offer guidance to our new president about the direction of the organization, the shape of future meetings, whether we should someday find out a way to hold a bank account, etc. And of course, topics for our panels and discussions!

More soon,

Chris
